Human Nature and the Human Good

Over the past few days we have talked about Glaucon’s idea that the unjust life is the better, the happier, life. He believes that those who live unjustly get ahead in society and live overall more profitable lifestyles. In this reading, Artistotle refutes this idea and believes that living a life full of virtue and good is what leads to the happiest life, or the happiest ‘ending’. He believes that a man of many virtues is the “best and most complete”.  All of these virtues are good ones, such as courage and reason, and it is the combination of these that make for a happy life.
